I had to get on the tube today because there was such a big jam. It may have been half a year since I last used it. For non frequent users, the first thing that strikes is the obscene amount of advertising present everywhere, at least once you pass the barrier gates.

After the first shock, I began to think of what was advertised there… usually there are lots of films, but I could only spot one today – about ten times, of course. Then I wondered, where are the films I have seen in those free magazines that I pick up at certain bus stops. The Edukators, for instance, sounds SOOOO promising. Or L’Atalante, or Maria Full Of Grace… so I get to the conclusion that the film market is also divided in segments. There are films that will only get adverts in free and/or political magazines, and others that are worth enough for people who can afford to spend over £20 a week in public transport.

And, talking of the subject, I can’t help but noticing just how political and even radical entertainment some free magazines can handle! Maybe not so much the Metro newspaper, but radical films in rampart have been advertised in Time Out… which is not even free… wait for the big advertisers to notice …
